The city of Krusevac was founded after the year 1371,as the capital of Prince Lazar's Serbia and military,cultural and economic center of that time.After the erection of the city the rulers of Krusevac and other landed proprietors in the vicinity:Lazarica,Ravanica,Ljubostinja,Koznik and some others.

In Krusevac was the main gathering place of the army on the eve of the crucial battle with the Turks which took place in 1389 on the Field Kosovo.In that battle the Turkish emperor Murat and Prince Lazar were both killed,together with many soldiers and landowners.During the ruling period of Lazar's son,Despot Stefan Lazarevic,the city experienced the flourishing time of humanism and Renaissance.After 1408 Despot Stefan Lazarevic moved to Belgrade which thus became the capital,while his younger brother Vuk stayed in Krusevac until he was killed in 1410.

In 1413 Krusevac was attacked and damaged by the Turks.It was finally liberated in 1833 during the ruling period of Milos Obrenovic when it became the center of the region of Krusevac.

Krusevac was soon developed into the economic and cultural of this part of Serbia:the first elementary school was opened in 1832,in 1839 Mr.Glisa Jankovic opened the soap work-shop,in 1857 there was first City reading-room.The first Grammar school was opened in 1864,Regional hospital in 1865,the first chemistry shop in 1868 and the first newspaper titled"Glas iz Krusevca" was printed in 1890.

The old city of Krusevac has been transformed into the modern industrial city with economic and social development.Krusevac of today is the city of youth...

One of the Prince's residences-the town of Koznik emerging above Zupa which is rich in vine area and above the river Rasina it was held by great chieftain of Prince Lazar-Rados Posupovic,in folk poems Rajko od Rasine.


    The Church of St.Stefan

Lazarica erected by Prince Lazar in an honor of birth of his son Stefan in 1377.Lazarica represents a prototype of billing of the Moravian School in the medieval serbian architecture

The monument was made in the spirit of academic realism.It was unveiled in 1904 in Krusevac.It slightly differs from the awarded one.In pyramidal composition scheme Dj.Jovanovic arranged figures and compositions symbolizing the Kosovo Battle which is taken as a military defeat and as a spiritual victory,suffering and courage,continuation of the state of Serbia and persistence.At the top there is a fairy supporting the wounded flag bearer of the Serbian Army-Bosko Jugovic whole putting a bay-wreath on his head.To the eastern and western sides there are bas-reliefs:"Serbian Army taking Communion"and"Milos is killing the Turkish and Sultan Murat".To the northern side in the of a monument there is a seaded figure of a folk singer-a faddle player,and to the southern one there is Serbia presented by a girl with a bay wreath on head,sword in one hand and pointing by the other unliberated regions to the South.To the northern side there is a coat of arms of Rasa-the State of the Nemanjich's and a year of the Kosovo battle 1389.Westward there are coat of arms of The car Dusan times and the year of unveiling of the monument 1904.Eastward there is a coat of arms of Prince Lazar,dedication "The Serbs to the Kosovo heroes" with a baywreath and a palm branch at the base.To the southern side there is a new coat of arms of Serbian Kingdom of 1888 and a year of 1882 when Serbia had been proclaimed a kingdom.the motive at the fence of casted iron arounded the Monument presents stylized Kosovo peonies.
